1. One&Only Palmilla: my first pick for founders with families
One&Only Palmilla has a swimmable shore and room for the family to spread out. There is plenty to do without planning a new outing each morning. I’d put it first when the aim is more time with your family.
The appeal starts at the water. Palmilla’s Pelican Beach activities include snorkeling, kayaking and paddleboarding in the Sea of Cortez. On a short break, I’d value those options close to my room over a long list of tours.
Family rooms and the kids club
Palmilla offers two-bedroom family rooms and suites, along with private villas and select plunge-pool accommodations. Its KidsOnly program serves children ages 4–11, with activities such as crafts, cooking and outdoor games.
I’d choose the layout before the view. With young children, a separate bedroom can let you enjoy the evening after their bedtime. With older kids, decide together whether they want organized activities or time at the beach. A kids club is only useful if your children want to go.
The tradeoff: Palmilla’s full bill needs a close look. Its booking terms list breakfast for two in room rates. Taxes and service charges are added. Check what your rate covers for each guest, then allow for other meals, spa visits and transport. I’d choose Grand Velas if having more of those daily costs covered mattered most.
2. Grand Velas Los Cabos: best for all-inclusive ease
Grand Velas Los Cabos is my choice when you want to settle into one resort with most meals paid for. Its all-inclusive dining, ocean views and spacious suites suit a week with the family.
The resort is located along the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. Suites start at more than 1,100 square feet, with private terraces. Three infinity pools give the stay its focus, including a separate area for adults.
What the all-inclusive experience covers
The Grand Velas inclusions and policies list meals, a stocked minibar and premium drinks in the plan. Several dinner restaurants require reservations. Spa treatments and airport transfers cost extra, so leave room for those if they are part of your vacation.
Families have a kids club for ages 4–12 and a separate teens club. That makes Grand Velas worth comparing with Palmilla when siblings are at different stages. Check the current schedule before promising a particular activity.
I’d use the first full day for the pools, lunch and a relaxed dinner. You do not need to earn a quiet afternoon by filling the morning with plans. On a trip after a busy launch, having meals close at hand may be the luxury you use most.
The tradeoff: the resort bans swimming at its beach due to dangerous ocean conditions. Choose Montage Los Cabos or Chileno Bay if walking into the sea is central to your plans. Grand Velas also makes less sense if you want dinner in town every night. You would pay for meals at the hotel that you did not eat.
3. Nobu Hotel Los Cabos: best for dining and spa days
Nobu Hotel Los Cabos is the one I’d shortlist when dinner is an event you look forward to. Its signature restaurant serves Japanese-Peruvian food with Mexican touches, with the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop. A long lunch, time by the pool and a dinner reservation could be enough structure for the day.
The hotel is in the gated Diamante community on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas. Treat it as a place to settle in. Map the route before making nightly plans around the marina or across town. A remote setting can lose its appeal if every meal means another drive.
Make room for the spa
Esencia Wellness Spa has an outdoor hydrotherapy garden, steam and sauna facilities, and treatments for couples. I’d leave space around a spa appointment instead of rushing straight into another booking. If your idea of a wellness retreat is time to rest, an open afternoon serves that aim.
Nobu welcomes families, too. Its hotel FAQ lists Kizzu Kids Club and family accommodations. Connecting rooms are limited, so get the arrangement confirmed before paying if separate sleeping spaces matter.
The tradeoff: Nobu is not a traditional all-inclusive resort. Budget for dining and treatments beyond your room package. Its beach has strong currents and drop-offs; plan to swim in the pools. I’d choose Nobu for a break shaped by food and spa time. Palmilla or Montage would suit a family that wants to swim in the sea.
4. Montage Los Cabos: best for a vacation by the bay
Montage Los Cabos sits on Santa Maria Bay, with access to swimming and snorkeling. It is my pick when you want the water to shape the day. Have a swim before lunch, rest by the pool, then head back to the bay before dinner.
The setting gives you a reason to put the laptop away without having to book a full-day tour. That matters on a short break. Each hour you spend arranging transport is an hour you could have spent outside.
Choose the room for the way you relax
Montage Los Cabos separates its room categories by view and private-pool access. Some have partial ocean views; others offer full views. A pool in the hotel’s main photograph does not mean it comes with your room.
I’d pay for a private pool if you expect to use it during naps or slow mornings. If most of your day will be at the bay, I’d consider putting that money toward another night.
The resort’s family amenities include Paintbox sessions for children ages 5–12. There is a family pool and an adults-only infinity pool, too. Spa Montage adds a place to rest away from the water. Check session times, spaces and fees when making plans for the young ones.
The tradeoff: the bay is a major part of what you are paying for. If you prefer to stay on a private terrace, compare Montage’s pool rooms with Pedregal. If you want meals bundled into the stay, compare the total cost with Grand Velas Los Cabos before choosing.
5. Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal: best for private pool time
Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal makes a strong case for staying in. Its guest rooms and suites have private plunge pools and terraces. Larger villas and casitas suit guests who need more space.
For a couple, that is the main reason I’d book. You can have a slow breakfast, read by your own pool and leave the afternoon open. It suits a honeymoon or anniversary, but you do not need an occasion beyond wanting time together.
Privacy without a full villa booking
A private plunge pool gives you outdoor space to enjoy without sharing the main resort pools. It does not, by itself, tell you how sheltered a terrace is from nearby rooms. Ask about sightlines if privacy is the deciding factor.
For dinner, El Farallon serves seafood in a cliffside setting. I’d make that the evening’s main plan and leave time to enjoy the ocean views. Book the dining experience you want separately from the room.
Pedregal also welcomes families. A larger one-bedroom suite offers separate living and dining areas, which may matter more than another shared hotel amenity.
The tradeoff: the hotel advises against swimming at its beach because of strong currents. Choose it for private pools and Pacific views. For a Cabo San Lucas vacation with a swim in the sea each morning, start with the bay resorts.
6. Chileno Bay Resort & Residences: best for active beach days
Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, part of Auberge Collection, gives families direct access to a protected cove on the Sea of Cortez. Its H2O Cave activity center offers snorkeling gear, kayaks and paddleboards. I’d choose it for a family that relaxes by getting into the water.
You can build a day around one activity and still leave plenty of time to do very little. That appeals to me for a founder who finds it hard to sit still. There is something to hold your attention, with no need for a packed schedule.
Kids, teens and room to spread out
Chileno Bay’s family programs include Pescaditos for ages 5–12 and Escondite for ages 12–17. Childcare for younger children and evening activities carry extra fees. Check reservations before planning an adults’ dinner around club time.
The resort also offers suites, villas and residences for larger groups. Spacious accommodations are useful when different bedtimes would otherwise put everyone on the same schedule. Look at the floor plan, the bedroom doors and the route to the pools.
Dining options include COMAL, beachside tacos at TnT and Mediterranean food at YAYA. I’d keep at least one evening casual. A family break does not need a formal dinner every night.
The tradeoff: a private villa is still part of a shared resort. If you need quiet, ask how close your room is to restaurants, pools and event spaces. Pick your part of Los Cabos first
Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo are separate towns. The resorts between them do not all suit the same outings. Nobu sits out on the Pacific side. Montage and Chileno Bay put the bays at the center of the stay.
If you want to explore art galleries and Mexican culture, plan time in San José del Cabo. If your plans center on the Cabo San Lucas marina, check that journey from the hotel. A prime location is one that suits your own day.
Arrange the full trip from Los Cabos International Airport before booking a short stay. Compare flight times, transfer costs and room access on arrival. An earlier flight helps less if it leaves you waiting hours for your room.
Compare the whole vacation bill
Price the same dates, guest count and room setup at each resort. Then add taxes, service charges, meals, transport, childcare and any spa treatments you want. Grand Velas Los Cabos includes more dining in the rate. At the other hotels, check each part of the package you choose.
For families, confirm which children’s meals and activities are included. For couples, decide whether you want several restaurant bookings or a simple plan with room service. Paying more for amenities you will not use does not make the vacation better.
Give work a small, defined place
If you need to check in with your team, set one short window. Agree on who handles urgent issues while you are away. Ask the hotel about a room for a private call before you travel. Wi-Fi alone will not make your terrace a good place to talk.
